Just one day before NBC officially announced the cancelation of Smash, star Katharine McPhee talked to The Hollywood Reporter about the inevitable conclusion of the fictional Broadway drama.

“Sure, I wish that it could have five more seasons, but we had two great seasons and all I can say is I loved every moment of it,” said McPhee, whose costars included Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, and Megan Hilty. “I loved getting to the set, I loved the people, I loved my crew. We did amazing things on the show in two years.”

The former American Idol runner-up is certainly no stranger to show business. She’s been trying to break into acting for as long as she’s been singing, and having grown up in Los Angeles, McPhee knows what trials lie ahead. “With this business, you can never predict what people are going to like or love or hate,” she told THR. “All I know is that when the show started and people were so excited about the pilot, I was excited to finally be a part of something that could showcase me. Everyone has perceptions about what you’re capable of and what you can do and this show was a huge gift.”

Soon after news broke on Friday that the network was pulling the plug on the show two seasons in, the 29-year-old took to Twitter with a lengthy response to her fans. Among McPhee’s tweets:

“Love you all! Your passion is so heartwarming! Life is about chapters and the relationships you make along the way. Next chapter! Exciting. And I love this girl @meganhiltly soooooooo much! One of the many great things I gained!”

Now with Smash shoots permanently wrapped, does McPhee, who said she “fell in love with New York — the city and the people,” plan to stay on the East Coast? It’s unlikely. Said McPhee: “The reality is everything I need to do and create and pursue at the moment is in L.A.”

That includes working on new music for Columbia Records. Among her collaborators on songs for a forthcoming album are Linda Perry, Ryan Tedder, Salaam Remi and Sia.

The Nominations — It’s a crucial moment for both shows as Tony nominations loom, but keeping your eye on the prize can be hard. As Tom crosses an influential Tony voter and Ivy copes with some very distracting news, Derek’s past has repercussions for the entire “Hit List” team.

The TONYS — On Tony night, the awards might not provide the answers everyone is looking for. As Jimmy faces a final reckoning, Tom, Julia, Derek, Karen, Ivy, and most of all, Eileen wait to see if the ceremony will confirm their place in the Broadway pantheon once and for all.

The show is over for Smash, which has officially been canceled.

After a stunningly dismal return to the schedule, the rebooted drama under new showrunner Josh Safran was bumped to Saturdays in March. Despite the infusion of scores of Broadway stars and cameos from Rosie O’Donnell and Liza Minelli, among others, the series is averaging a measly 0.8 among adults 18-49 and just under 3 million total viewers — a far cry from its freshman run.

In a nod to the value of the project to network entertainment president Bob Greenblatt, NBC will air all 17 episodes of Smash, with Safran acknowledging that the final episode was crafted as a “series finale.”

According to TVLine, Smash will wrap with a two-hour series finale on a special night: Sunday, May 26 (9/8c).

In a new interview with multi-award-winning modern comedy icon Tina Fey, the actress and comedienne reveals that she is a big fan of the NBC musical drama series SMASH.

“Oh, I watch SMASH every week,” Fey says excitedly in the new TV Guide clip just released in which she discusses her favorite current must-see TV shows – her “Watchlist” – which also include MAD MEN, Veep and CHOPPED.

In a noticeable uptick, viewership for the episode “The Phenomenon” scored 2.28 million viewers with a 0.5/2 share in the adults 18-49 demo. That’s a definite improvement from the rock bottom ratings the show received in the prior two weeks (a meager 1.89 million viewers). On the bright side, E! Online’s annual “Save Our Show” competition named Smash the winner, meaning that the fans are still fond of NBC’s musical dramedy.

Karen did her usual Karen thing and toyed with the hearts of both Derek and poor, damaged Jimmy; meanwhile, despicable producer Jerry announced his intentions to bring Hit List to Broadway just in time for a red-hot Tony race against Bombshell. With just three episodes left in the season, the battle is on—just like the real Tonys!

At 8 p.m. ET, NBC’s SMASH scored a 0.5 in the all-important adult 18-49 demographic (compared to 0.4 on 4/27) and delivered its biggest overall audience to date among five Saturday telecasts with 2.3 million viewers (compared to 1.9 million on 4/27). In the time period, “Smash” ranked #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX in adults 18-49.
